The relationship matters, it guides how I work.
I’m Chris, a qualified and registered counsellor working with adults.
People often come to counselling when life feels heavy, confusing, or hard to manage. This can show up as anxiety, low mood, burnout, grief, or long-standing self-doubt.
Over time, I’ve noticed that people tend to find things shift when they feel understood and taken seriously. When there’s enough trust, it becomes easier to speak honestly and begin making sense of what’s happening.
My work is about creating a calm, steady space where this can happen. We slow things down and pay attention to what’s going on, rather than pushing for quick answers.
How I Work
I work in a flexible and responsive way. There isn’t a set formula or fixed agenda. Each session is shaped by what’s most relevant at the time.
My approach is integrative. I draw on different psychological ways of understanding, but I keep the focus on you rather than on techniques or models. The work changes as your needs change.
Some sessions involve talking things through. Others involve noticing patterns or reactions that keep repeating.
We might look at how past experiences still have an impact, or focus on what’s happening in everyday life. When it’s helpful, we also spend time finding practical ways to handle things when they feel hard to manage.
I pay close attention to how the work is landing. You don’t need to present things neatly or know where to begin. We can take time, pause when needed, and stay with what’s unclear.
The relationship matters, it guides how I work.
Experience and Perspective
I’ve been working with people in therapeutic settings for over six years, including both private practice and work within the NHS.
Alongside this, I’ve been involved in advisory and service development work, contributing perspectives to wider conversations about mental health care.
Across different settings, one thing has remained consistent. People are more likely to find a way forward when they feel listened to, respected, and genuinely engaged with. This has shaped how I work and what I prioritise.
